I'm finding some of the edges of dirt and cliffs a bit hard to work with and can't really think of a good layout for everything :S. I thought the farm layout was pretty self-explanatory. The area in front of the house has room for plenty of crops. The boxed in areas west of the house I used for a barn & coop (north box) and sheds in the south.I use Grandpa's farm map (you didn't mention which map you use) and I've gotten to his shrine way before the end of y2. Had to walk on the far side and follow the river up to the waterfall. There was a rock and a limb that I had to chop to access it to read the note.
